After a seven year hiatus, Futurama’s new season debuts tonight at 10 pm on Comedy Central with an hour of back-to-back episodes. The premiere episode, titled “Rebirth,” finds the gang having to get reborn after a space battle leaves them reduced to skeletons, creepy and awesome. After that, Leela and the super-handsome Zapp Brannigan get stranded on an Eden-like planet…naked…shudder!

So far Comedy Central has ordered 26 new Futurama episodes. Guest voices over the course of the upcoming run will include Katee Sackhoff, George Takei, Chris Elliot, Devo, Craig Ferguson (as a talking part of Leela’s anatomy) and Patton Oswalt, who will be voicing a character called Unattractive Giant Monster.

Always been a big fan of Disney Animation until I saw HOME ON THE RANGE. I wanted to shake my fist at Disney and say who in the hell thought a yodeling cowboy as the villain would be a good idea? After this huge error Disney Animation pretty much closed up shop. Then the rumors started to swirl the Princess and The Frog would be the next movie. Then the story was leaked that this movie would feature the first African American princess. I thought well it’s about time. I then saw great teaser footage at Comic Con and the D23 Expo and went damn I am sold. I then decided to go see it.

SPOILERS AHEAD YE BE WARNED! Read the rest of this entry

Roy E. Disney Passes Away - December 16, 2009

h1 Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Roy Edward Disney, the nephew of Walt Disney who locked horns with the Disney Company that led to the unseating of two of the company’s chief executives. Best know of course was Michael Eisner after Disney’s successful involvement in the SaveDisney.com campaign and a revival of the studio’s legendary animation unit, died today. He was 79. Roy E. Disney was best known for having a striking resemblance to his uncle Walt Disney.

Roy E. Disney, who had been battling stomach cancer, died at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, according to Clifford A. Miller, a spokesman for Disney’s company Shamrock Holdings. His death occurred 43 years and one day after Walt Disney died, also from cancer. In addition, he died exactly 12 years after his aunt, Lillian Bounds Disney.

Here on The B-Side our support and good vibes go to the his family, friends and fans.

The Princess and the Frog - Princess Tiana Arrives in Disneyland Friday, Nov. 6

h1 Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Disney’s Newest Royalty, Princess Tiana Arrives in Disneyland Friday, Nov. 6

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Starting Friday, Nov. 6, Disneyland guests will be treated to appearances by Princess Tiana, star of the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures animated feature film “The Princess and the Frog.”

Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen and other characters from the motion picture will star in “Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee!,” a rousing, colorful procession with a jazz-filled Mardi Gras theme. The good times will roll as festively dressed, bead-tossing revelers lead Disneyland guests to the Mark Twain Riverboat dock. The party moves onboard as the Mark Twain paddlewheels its way along the river to singing, dancing and all that jazz.

Songs composed by Randy Newman for the film energize the show, which will be performed four times daily in New Orleans Square. Daytime pyrotechnics, colorful streamers and whimsical puppetry round out the 15-minute spirited production.

The experience will dazzle guests at Disneyland through Jan. 3, 2010.

Guests also will be able to greet Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen at designated times at the Court of Angels in New Orleans Square, Disneyland.

A hilarious movie adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana, “The Princess and the Frog” will open in limited release in New York and Los Angeles on Nov. 25, 2009, before expanding nationwide on Dec. 11, 2009.

D23 - Disney Expo - Saturday - September 12, 2009

h1 Friday, October 2nd, 2009

By Rick A Mortis - Head Writer & Photographer

I checked out the first ever Disney Expo on Saturday September 12 and my first thought was uhhh where’s the people? I think a major factor in the low attendance was due to the very insane ticket price for general admission of $37.00. Food prices was also a bit high as well at the convention and really was standard con food with Disneyfied names. We did beat the system and parked at Disneyland versus the parking cost for the Anaheim Convention Center. Admission was fast since I had purchased tickets online. It was strange that they only had wrist bands for the convention. I guess I am used to wearing a badge around my neck and also maybe a wristband. Ok end of that ramble.

Saw tons of cool stuff such as exhibits, auctions, huge vendors floor, sneak peaks and upcoming projects such as Alice in Wonderland, TRON, The Princess And The Frog, The Muppets, Disneyland, Disney’s California Adventure

As I mentioned since the turn out was not as huge as expected at times spots were a bit dead at D23. We attended only attended two of the programs that day:

12:30 p.m. The Science of Imagineering

Wizards from Walt Disney Imagineering, including Asa Kalama, host of the Disney Educational Productions series The Science of Disney Imagineering, take us behind the scenes. Asa is assisted by a panel of Walt Disney Imagineering Technical staff.

If your a big Disney geek like me and like to know how things work this was your program. Lot’s of cool demos to be had. There was a special Haunted Mansion section that featured an eerie whispering effect. Best of all a free DVD for the series of The Science of Disney Imagineering was given out to audience members at the end of the program.

5:30 p.m. Lost Chords - Never-Heard Music from Disney Animation with Russell Schroeder

Using archival artwork, live performances by current Disney employees under the musical direction of Alexander Rannie and a special appearance by members of the Disney Employee Choir under the direction of Jim Wilber, Disney’s Lost Chords looks at the essential role that songwriting plays in the creation of Disney films.

Pure coolness for me again. A program was given out and we got to hear lost songs from Disney’s animated movies. Who knew Maleficent was such a singer? Great program and kudos by the Disney choir. You all deserved the standing ovation.

We had planned to end the night by watching Sleeping Beauty on the big screen at the con, but after sitting in the folding chairs provided for the panels we decided against it.

The staff that was mostly Disney cast members all rocked. For a first year convention there didn’t appear to be too many issues. I did hear that some rooms did fill up fast for other panels while some panels had little drawn were in large halls. I guess this is just growing pains and also some corporate power struggle in some departments. I hope next year D23 will come back bigger and better and hopefully cheaper.
