REVIEW: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

h1 Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Greetings to all.  Doctor Poo here with my review of the new Transformers movie.  I know that the internet is flooded with negative reviews about this movie.  I would hate to add another one to the many already out there, so I will try to cover different aspects of the film that surprised me in general.

Let’s focus first on who ( I believe) this film is made for.  8 to 12 year old boys that like things that go BOOM!  There’s nothing wrong with a good ol’ special effects movie with not much to offer in the plot department.  The first Transformers movie provided just that.  It was just a good popcorn movie I could take my kid to go see.  There were a few curse words here and there, but nothing major to make me regret taking my kid to go see.  Read the rest of this entry

X-Men Origins:Wolverine’ or aptly re-named “Why directors should NOT take liberties with Mainstream Comic based movies”

By Verbatim Girl

Whether you loved them in paperback, or just got hooked on those Saturday Mornings, all X-Men fans will agree when they hit the Big Screen…it was Hooray for Hollywood.

The Movie Big-Wigs are famous for their big budget all bang and no slang style, so one never presumed they’d leave well enough alone when it came to the X-MEN series. Twisting character bio’s and time lines that only a die hard fan would notice was to be expected. Generally the movies got by on great special effects, big name actors, and sweaty hairy mutants aplenty. In the Third installment they took a drastic chance and killed of 3 key members of the X-MEN universe. So I had a feeling that when it came to their latest release, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE all the rules no longer applied. Take it from me kids, it’s like they shredded up the screenplay, stuffed it inside a Pinata and swung away.

Now you don’t have to take my word for it. Below are just a few Fact vs. Fiction on just of few of it’s stars. Let’s see if you can sort out the seven degrees of X-menology?

Wolverines Love Interest

FACT:

Silver Fox is a lover of Wolverine who first appeared in Wolverine vol.2 #10, a Native Canadian Blackfoot where she is killed by Sabretooth. Sabretooth killed her on Logan ’s birthday, ostensibly when she rejected his advances. She is later revealed to be alive and a member of “Team X,” the best covert ops team the CIA had to offer, and is one of a few female victims of the Weapon X project. Fox betrays Team X and becomes a member of HYDRA, a subversive terrorist organization. Silver Fox reappears during the modern period when Wolverine tracks down the members of the Weapon X staff and discovers the studios where many of his memories he believes to be real were staged. Apparently, she kills the professor who had been in charge of the program after Logan left. At this point it is revealed that Silver Fox is in command of a section of Hydra.

FICTION:

Actress Lynn Collins plays Silver Fox in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. She is named Kayla Silverfox. Instead of the accelerated healing factor that Silver Fox was originally given, in the movie she possesses tactile mind control ability where she can control the mind of anyone she touches, although it appears that Logan and Victor Creed are immune to her ability. She is responsible for Logan ’s choice of “Wolverine” as his alias. She also identifies Emma Frost as her sister. Which is incorrect as Emma Frost was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to the wealthy family with 2 sisters Adrienne and Cordelia (both Models/not mutants) and her brother, Christian.

Terminator Salvation - Movie Review

 Terminator Salvation

By Rick_A_Mortis

Yeah I was dragging my feet on this one. The first two Terminators are awesome. The third one was like a crappy CGI prequel Star Wars fest…yeah it almost made me like the ewoks..almost. Then I heard McG directing and PG 13 and I thought…crap.

SPOILERS AHEAD YE BE WARNED!

Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a killer is heading to his execution by lethal injection starts of movie after donating his body to Dr. Serena Kogan (Helena Bonham Carter). So the opening credits roll and my worries are set to rest. Thankfully we have no bikini clad gun toting Terminators on silver trampolings shooting machine guns. I am only giving a mini cliff notes version of the movie, and it’s all wacky because of the time travel underlining plot. The movie is set in post-apocalyptic 2018 California, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, kinda leading a human resistance against Skynet after it went a killing spree and its happy group of Cybermen I mean…Terminators. REVIEW: ANGELS AND DEMONS

BY AUNTIEPANPAN

Okay…okay…I am a Ewan McGregor fan…sigh.

I have read Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons and I love this book more than the ‘Da Vinci Code’. I guess I’m odd that way. I love any book regarding the Illuminati…I like conspiracies and all sorts of psycho babble regarding cults or secret organizations. heh heh heh. Not that I would know anything about that. MATRIX - 10th ANNIVERSARY MARATHON - Saturday, March 28 - 5:00 PM

h1 Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Whoa!?!?

Yeah yeah I know…that last movie sucked. But if your out in LA you can check out all 3.

Saturday, March 28 - 5:00 PM

MATRIX ANNIVERSARY MARATHON!

Ten years ago, with only an independent cult hit (BOUND) and a script for a Sylvester Stallone action flick (ASSASSINS) on their resume, brothers Larry and Andy Wachowski embarked on one of the most ambitious science fiction trilogies of all time. The MATRIX movies combined elements from varied genre classics and added a healthy dose of original thought to become a beloved (and heavily discussed and analyzed) series of contemporary entertainments.

THE MATRIX, 1999, Warner Bros., 136 min. Dirs. Larry and Andy Wachowski. Keanu Reeves learns that the universe is controlled by computers, not humans-he and his fellow men are mere batteries to provide bioelectrical energy-and he isn’t even living in 1999 as he believes, but hundreds of years later. When revolutionary Laurence Fishburne opens Reeves’ eyes, the reluctant hero leads a revolt (with help from Carrie-Anne Moss and others) against the powers that be. Working from influences including BLADE RUNNER, VIDEODROME and assorted Hong Kong action movies, the Wachowski brothers have created a new science fiction landmark. Read the rest of this entry

REVIEW: Rise of the Lycans

By AuntiePanPan

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is by far a fantastic prequel to Underworld one. I loved it personally better than Underworld two by far.

It gives an entirely new meaning for werewolf jokes everywhere. Read the rest of this entry

Quantum of Solace - Movie Review

By Rick_A_Mortis

I dug CASINO ROYALE a lot. The first Bond that I actually went to see in a movie theatre because of good word of mouth.

SPOILERS AHEAD YE BE WARNED!

This to my knowledge is the only Bond movie that is a continuation of a storyline. Which is why you should go see CASINO ROYALE before you see this sequel. Trust me you might not know what is going on. Read the rest of this entry

REVIEW: EAGLE EYE

h1 Sunday, September 28th, 2008

BY AuntiePanPan

IF you are into conspiracies and all good thoughts on the whole cyberspace/Intel world? this is a great flick…where else can you see Bill Bob Thornton drive like a lunatic trying to shoot things? Shia is great in this flick…then again, it takes a lot for me to dislike the boofster. He sorta reminds me of a John Cusack meets Bobby Downey Jr. (YES. I called him Bobby …. deal with it groupies…I’m sure if he isn’t happy with me….he will be MORE than happy to tell me so…he has NO problem with honesty or bluntness…thank god for 80’s actors!  Actually he would probably throw a Red Vine at me and say: “BAD PAN!” but I’m digressing here..)  Take the movie “The NET”, with a shot of “The Man that Knew too Much” or any Alfred Hitchcock flick that Doris Day is singing in… with a nibble of the fourth ‘Die Hard’ movie…mix well with a touch of the ghost in the machine? You have a great hit!

THINGS BLOW UP PRETTY! That’s all you need to know. Read the rest of this entry
