On Saturday July 24, 2010 a press junket was held to officially announce that Elvira Mistress of the Dark Returns will be busting out on the boob tube with revamped ELVIRA’S MOVIE MACABRE  (tentative title) which will premiere on THIS! Television and in national syndication throughout the U.S. set to air on September 25 and make sure to check local listings for station, day, time and all that other stuff. The show will be a weekly two-hour movie block and is distributed by Trifecta Entertainment & Media, and will air on television stations representing more than 80% of U.S. households.

When asked how she felt about the Twilight movies, Elvira tried really hard to be diplomatic and after being egged on by Ted, she broke and said “I hate the Twilight movies!”  I prefer my vamps non sparkling as well.

When asked how she keeps looking so young “Virgins blood, but it’s getting harder to find and exorcising daily”

Elvira was asked if any favorites made it on the show and they are The Killer Shrews, Manos, The Hands of Fate, Teenagers From Outer Space and Werewolf of Washington.

Hank Cohen, CEO/Partner of Trifecta Entertainment & Media, told us that over 500 films were considered before the final choices were made. “Elvira knows these movies backwards and forwards.”

Two movies that she would like to get the rights for are Plan 9 From Outer Space and House on Haunted Hill.

A real issue was finding the public-domain flicks in good or complete condition, because these movies when made on the cheap so the crappy negatives abound. The films to be featured on the show are remastered. “I’m going to be in HD of course,” she said. As for screening 3D movies, Elvira grinned and replied, “I only have 2Ds right now.”

Elvira is totally jazzed about the “spooky and cool” music for the new show, composed by White Stripes musician Jack While. “We’re going to make a day-glow vinyl of it,” Elvira said. Vinyl is awesome so this is SWEET!

Speaking of groovy tunes for your crypt, Elvira also has a iTunes album titled Elvira’s Gravest Hits featuring 13 tracks of course!

http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/elviras-gravest-hits/id380065081

When asked about Lady Gaga and other pop stars “stay out of the front of the Macabre Mobile” and will call herself “Lady Tatas.”

Elvira’s Movie Macabre is a 34D Production written and produced by Cassandra Peterson and Ted Biaselli. The series’ Executive Producer is Anita First. The format of the show will be very similar to her previous one. Elvira will have 8 lead ins and will also pop up on screen for commentary as well. “And I have the same old damn couch,” Elvira said.

Elvira’s  Movie Macabre TV series picks are:

Night of the Living Dead, The Terror, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, Giant Gila Monster, Scared to Death, Werewolf of Washington, Eegah!, Untamed Women, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Satanic Rights of Dracula, I Eat Your Skin, Don’t Look in the Basement, Teenagers From Outer Space, Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter, Lady Frankenstein, Manster, Wild Women of Wongo, A Bucket of Blood, Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric, Tormented, The Wasp Woman, Beast From the Haunted Cave, The Killer Shrews, Monsters From a Prehistoric Planet, Attack of the Giant Leeches and Manos, The Hands of Fate.

Forever LOST

h1 Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

After six years of unanswered questions and frustration, LOST ends its run tomorrow with a two and a half hour series finale.  ABC has made Sunday, May 23rd an entire evening devoted to LOST.

Here is the entire schedule:

7|6c: LOST: The Final Journey (Retrospective)
9|8c: The End (Series Finale)
12:05|1:05c: Jimmy Kimmel Live: Aloha to LOST

I have to say that I am one of the many who have tuned into this show since the very first episode.  LOST night was always an event at my house.  It was one of those shows that really drew the audience in.  When I think about it, the entire mystery of what was going on was extremely enticing, but the show is really character driven.  In the end, we probably won’t find out anything more about the Hurley Bird, but we will definitely see the outcome of each character’s personal journey.  I will make sure to keep a box of Kleenex near by.

Doctor Poo signing out, Brutha!

METROPOLIS - Newly restored version - Fritz Lang - Thursday May 14, 2010 - Laemmle Royal Theatre - Los Angeles

h1 Monday, May 10th, 2010

The newly restored version of METROPOLIS, German director Fritz Lang’s silent science fiction classic, made its Los Angeles debut on April 25 as part of the Turner Classic Movies film festival. Now it moves into the Royal Theatre for an open-ended engagement.Touted as the precursor to films like BLADE RUNNER, METROPOLIS is cinema’s first example of a science fiction extravaganza, using elaborate miniatures and other special effects to depict a futuristic city engaged in a class conflict between the rich, living in their lofty skyscrapers, and the workers, toiling in machinery rooms down below. Director Lang himself thought the scenario (by his wife, Theo Von Harbou) was somewhat simplistic, yet the film’s visual power has retained its reputation as a classic.

METROPOLIS was the subject of a previous restoration, currently available on DVD from Kino Video, but even that version was incomplete. Two years ago, additional lost footage was discovered in South America and restored by the Munich Film Museum. The footage, part of a 16mm duplicate print, amounted to 25 minutes (approximately one-fifth the film’s running time), including entire sequences - such as the original ending - not seen since the debut in Berlin in 1927. Perhaps equally important to the missing footage was the fact that the 16mm print provided a reliable guide for editing METROPOLIS back into something resembling its original form. Science Fiction Movies, you wouldn’t trust either one of them after the fade out.

The restoration took one year, costing approximately $840,000.

Happy International Star Wars Day! May 4, 2010

h1 Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

SAM_0146.jpg picture by rickamortis-pics

So are you hugging your stuffed Yoda, dressed up as slave girl Leia and remembering when the Star Wars movies kicked ass and didn’t feature CGI effects and annoying certain characters? Well then May 4 is the day for you. Star Wars Day started up because of the epic motto: “May the 4th be with you” and “May the Force be with you”.

Now go back to your light saber duel and please don’t kiss your siblings “for luck”, it’s creepy.

Also coming soon, a huge trip report on the Wizard Comic Con that took place in Anaheim!

Gallifrey One - 21st Annual North American Doctor Who Celebration - LAX Marriott - Sunday February 28, 2010 - Trip Report

Gallifrey One, the 21st Annual North American Doctor Who Celebration, at the LAX Marriott was held February  26-28, 2010. Since this was the 21st year there was a Blackjack and casino theme to the convention. Me and my fearless crew  hopped aboard the Tardis and went on Sunday.

Admission for the event was broken down like this: $75 for the weekend, $35 Friday or Sunday only, $40 Saturday only, $35 ages 12-16; children under 12 free with adult.

The bulk of the programming took place on the Marriott’s lower level, in the Imperial Ballroom. All the programs where very well attended and interesting. Graeme Harper panel was funny and insightful into what goes into writing for a show. A bonus was the Tardis on the stage. Also Doctor Who episodes where screened during programing in another room. An Art Show and Auction went on as well.

Sunday was attended by: Nicholas Briggs, Bob Baker, Louise Page, Georgia Moffett, Tommy Knight, Graeme Harper, John Levene, Colin Teague, and more!

The new autograph set up was snap and was no hassle at all. I would like this to be used at other conventions. Tickets where given out an hour before. The surplus tickets where then given out once all ticket holders where inside. Best of all no charge for autographs.

I would highly recommend this convention to all fans of the Doctor Who Universe. See you next year!
