Hatchet II UNRATED Theatrical Release will be hacking its way into theatres October 1, 2010

h1 Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Dark Sky Films, a division ofMPI Media Group, announced today that in anticipation of the upcoming Halloween horror movie season, Adam Green’s HATCHET II will be distributed in theaters across the country beginning Oct 1. The film will be released without an MPAA rating, marking the widest release of an unrated genre film in more than 25 years.

AMC Theatres, under its AMC independent program, will be exhibiting HATCHET II in the top 20 markets across the country. Vitagraph Films is serving as theatrical distributor.

The announcement regarding the HATCHET II release was made jointly by Adam Green with MPI Media Group’s Senior Vice President of Acquisitions Greg Newman.

A ferociously fun tribute to the old-school horror sensation slasher movies of the 80’s, HATCHET II is the follow-up to the popular original film, which was released theatrically in 2007 and became a sleeper-hit, gaining a wide following on DVD. The cast of HATCHET II features a cavalcade of horror movie icons including Danielle Harris (HALLOWEEN) and Kane Hodder (FRIDAY THE 13th), reprising his role as serial killer Victor Crowley. Also starring are Tony Todd (CANDYMAN) and R.A. Mihailoff (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE).

HATCHET II is having its world premiere this week in London at Fright Fest, the UK’s premiere horror and fantasy film festival.

Director Adam Green said, “Having a movie as graphically over the top as HATCHET II come out in major theatres unrated is an absolute dream come true — not only for the genre fans but for the entire make-up effects crew who normally have to watch their amazing achievements get sliced and diced for theatrical release. This is an important event for the horror genre and I hope the real horror fans support HATCHET II and help change the way genre films are released theatrically from this day forward. Kudos to Dark Sky Films and AMC theaters for truly honoring the spirit of old school American horror and doing this right. Gorehounds won’t know what hit them!”

Dark Sky Films’ Newman added, “We are thrilled that audiences will not have to wait for a director’s cut or unrated version of Adam Green’s HATCHET II. On October 1st fans will have the opportunity to see Hatchet II in theaters exactly as it was intended to be seen: full-on, uncut and uncensored! We hope that this unrated release of HATCHET II marks a new trend in providing an uncompromised theatrical experience for genre film lovers nationwide.”

“Our AMC independent program embraces diverse storytelling of all types,” said AMC Theatres’ Vice President, Specialty & Alternative Content, Nikkole Dneson-Randolph. “Bringing a story like HATCHET II to our guests is a natural fit during this time of year and we’re excited to share the filmmakers’ vision on-screen in its intended state.”

ABOUT HATCHET II

Just as the 80’s had their signature murderous maniacs-HALLOWEEN’s Michael Myers of Haddonfield and FRIDAY THE 13th’s Jason Voorhees of Camp Crystal Lake- the original HATCHET marked the arrival of the latest and most lethal of the genre’s stalking murderers: Victor Crowley, a crazed backwoods killer stalking the bayous of New Orleans.

HATCHET II picks up right where the 2007 original film ends, as Marybeth (Danielle Harris fromHALLOWEEN) escapes from the clutches of the deformed, swamp-dwelling killer Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder from FRIDAY THE 13th). Marybeth returns to the Louisiana swamps along with an army of hunters to recover the bodies of her family and exact her revenge against Victor Crowley.

On Saturday July 24, 2010 a press junket was held to officially announce that Elvira Mistress of the Dark Returns will be busting out on the boob tube with revamped ELVIRA’S MOVIE MACABRE  (tentative title) which will premiere on THIS! Television and in national syndication throughout the U.S. set to air on September 25 and make sure to check local listings for station, day, time and all that other stuff. The show will be a weekly two-hour movie block and is distributed by Trifecta Entertainment & Media, and will air on television stations representing more than 80% of U.S. households.

When asked how she felt about the Twilight movies, Elvira tried really hard to be diplomatic and after being egged on by Ted, she broke and said “I hate the Twilight movies!”  I prefer my vamps non sparkling as well.

When asked how she keeps looking so young “Virgins blood, but it’s getting harder to find and exorcising daily”

Elvira was asked if any favorites made it on the show and they are The Killer Shrews, Manos, The Hands of Fate, Teenagers From Outer Space and Werewolf of Washington.

Hank Cohen, CEO/Partner of Trifecta Entertainment & Media, told us that over 500 films were considered before the final choices were made. “Elvira knows these movies backwards and forwards.”

Two movies that she would like to get the rights for are Plan 9 From Outer Space and House on Haunted Hill.

A real issue was finding the public-domain flicks in good or complete condition, because these movies when made on the cheap so the crappy negatives abound. The films to be featured on the show are remastered. “I’m going to be in HD of course,” she said. As for screening 3D movies, Elvira grinned and replied, “I only have 2Ds right now.”

Elvira is totally jazzed about the “spooky and cool” music for the new show, composed by White Stripes musician Jack While. “We’re going to make a day-glow vinyl of it,” Elvira said. Vinyl is awesome so this is SWEET!

Speaking of groovy tunes for your crypt, Elvira also has a iTunes album titled Elvira’s Gravest Hits featuring 13 tracks of course!

http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/elviras-gravest-hits/id380065081

When asked about Lady Gaga and other pop stars “stay out of the front of the Macabre Mobile” and will call herself “Lady Tatas.”

Elvira’s Movie Macabre is a 34D Production written and produced by Cassandra Peterson and Ted Biaselli. The series’ Executive Producer is Anita First. The format of the show will be very similar to her previous one. Elvira will have 8 lead ins and will also pop up on screen for commentary as well. “And I have the same old damn couch,” Elvira said.

Elvira’s  Movie Macabre TV series picks are:

Night of the Living Dead, The Terror, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, Giant Gila Monster, Scared to Death, Werewolf of Washington, Eegah!, Untamed Women, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Satanic Rights of Dracula, I Eat Your Skin, Don’t Look in the Basement, Teenagers From Outer Space, Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter, Lady Frankenstein, Manster, Wild Women of Wongo, A Bucket of Blood, Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric, Tormented, The Wasp Woman, Beast From the Haunted Cave, The Killer Shrews, Monsters From a Prehistoric Planet, Attack of the Giant Leeches and Manos, The Hands of Fate.

Tim Burton’s fantasy/ horror comedy is one of the most fun and imaginative films of the 80s. A couple of recently deceased ghosts contract the services of a “bio-exorcist” in order to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house. Winona Ryder stars as the moody teenage daughter who befriends the ghosts and helps them with their problem with the living. The fantastic make-up special effects won an Oscar. Doctor Peter Vincent!!!

h1 Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

I shit you not!!! David Tennant will be the new Peter Vincent in the “Fright Night” remake! I don’t know what to make of it.  Loved Roddy McDowall in the original.  Love David Tennant for many other reasons.  Hmmm…I just never pictured him for the role though.  Well, if the movie sucks, at least I have something to look at.

Doctor Poo out!

Doctor Who and Red Mist join ‘Fright Night’ (exclusive)

David Tennant, best known for starring in the BBC series “Doctor Who,” and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are joining the cast of “Fright Night,” DreamWorks’ remake of the cult 1985 film.

Tennant and Mintz-Plasse join Anton Yelchin as Charlie, a teen convinced that his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a vampire. Toni Collette is the teen’s disbelieving mom, who falls under the vampire’s spell.

Tennant will play Peter Vincent, a character who in the original movie was played by Roddy McDowall as the host of a late-night horror show. In the remake, he’s a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful.

Mintz-Plasse is playing Evil Ed, Yelchin’s friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire’s coven.

The movie marks the first real foray into America for Tennant. He starred in the NBC pilot “Rex Is Not Your Lawyer,” but it did not get picked up. He is repped by UTA and Independent Talent Group.

UTA-repped Mintz-Plasse, meanwhile, is continuing to show that there is life after McLovin, the character he played in his acting debut in “Superbad.” He recently was onscreen as the Red Mist in “Kick-Ass.”

Michael De Luca and Alison R. Rosenzweig are producing “Fright,” which Craig Gillespie is directing. Lloyd Ivan Miller, Michael Gaeta and Josh Bratman are exec producing.

The movie will be released through Disney.
