Derby #152: De-evolution - DEVO Woot Shirt Contest! June 18, 2010

h1 Thursday, June 17th, 2010

http://blograge.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/devo1.jpg

This is kick ass Woot is doing a special T Shirt Derby for Devo! Check it out:

Here’s a pop quiz: what 20-years-overdue event finally occurred June 15? DEVO released their newest album, Something for Everyone! And to commemorate the occasion, Woot’s partnering with Kent State’s finest regressing Homo sapiens themselves, DEVO! We want you to create a design that best illustrates the idea of de-evolution: not the band, but the regression of mankind itself. Put pen to shirt and illustrate how, why, or when despite all our shiny gadgets we actually started undoing our evolutionary progress. By “we,” we mean humanity, not specifically us here at Shirt.Woot. Put on your best yellow jumpsuit and, yes, crack that whip. On yourself. You’ve only got a week!

And yes, you have access to actual DEVO assets, which you can download. You can use ONLY the included DEVO-approved images and ideas, everything else in your design must be original.

Additional rules, as always, apply:

You must use at least ONE of the DEVO-centric images.

No Star Wars, video games, or any other reference to a copyrighted work other than the pre-approved DEVO assets mentioned above.

Any band member likeness or silhouette must be an original work. No tracing.

Our winning design will be hand-picked by DEVO themselves, with second place being chosen by our usual Derby voting and third place being selected by the editorial staff here at Shirt.Woot.

In addition to the usual Shirt.Woot payout, DEVO is upping the ante with fabulous prizes: Read the rest of this entry

Cyndi Lauper & Lady Gaga VIVA GLAM makeup line - M·A·C AIDS Fund

h1 Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

MAC Cosmetics has just kicked off a a new line of cosmetics. Established in 1994 to support men, women and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS globally, VIVA GLAM I, II, III, IV, V and VI, were launched as continuous shades and have achieved tremendous success over the years. Spring 2010 sees two new VIVA GLAM shades introduced as limited life for 12 months on counter. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the sensational Cyndi Lauper and the electric Lady Gaga!

CYNDI LAUPER

Lauded, loved, copied, passionately acclaimed, the idol of all those for whom a quirky idiosyncrasy in makeup, hair, or style may say it all, this uber-talented performer has never been a copycat, always been a muse. A singer/songwriter, Lauper characteristically uses her fame as a performer to help make her message heard. Whether touring the country to assist food banks or helming the True Colors Fund, which lobbies for GLBT equality, Lauper stands for what she believes in and, when it comes to HIV/AIDS, that’s safe sex. With the launch of VIVA GLAM Cyndi, she looks forward to helping support women who have contracted HIV/AIDS through rape.

LADY GAGA

A true superstar, Lady’s Gaga’s shock-art approach to performance turns our heads and makes us all go gaga. An enfant terrible who grew up singing Cyndi Lauper songs, performing was in her DNA. By her teens, she was singing self-penned electro pop in New York’s Lower East Side. Today, aided by hit records, headpieces and countless accolades, her worldwide breakthrough has brought her well-deserved notoriety, but also the ability to cock our ears. A legend in her own time whose shock value now comes with a couture tag, she jokes about “changing the world one sequin at a time.” With the launch of VIVA GLAM Gaga, that could be one shade at a time. Her take on HIV/AIDS prevention: Be selective about those you love.

Every cent of the selling price of VIVA GLAM Lipstick and Lipgloss is donated to the M·A·C AIDS Fund to support men, women, and children living with HIV and AIDS.

Barbie runway show

For Barbie’s 50th anniversary, 50 designers recreated her most iconic outfits for the runway. Good ol Barbie still looking good and no botox. Ok maybe some cosmetic surgery. Barbie’s official birthday bash will be on March 9, 2009.

Barbie in her first official debut in 1959.

Barbie celebrated her big birthday by making her runway strut debut at New York Fashion Week at Bryant Park on Saturday. Well she did hit Project Runway but I guess this would make it her legit runway show. Sorry Heidi and Tom.

Jaded Goth Magazines

By AuntiePanPan

I have officially become jaded.

I knew it would happen eventually, but I didn’t think so soon…There I was in THAT corporate book chain which will remain nameless that offers tons of caffeine laden goodness, and whummpo there was THAT gothic fashion magazine that I used to love lavishly…

then I glazed thru the magazine to get a taste before I would shell out six dollars to support the goth cause.

I ended up not purchasing the magazine.

AND LET ME TELL YOU WHY.

They are beginning to get stale and old. and NOT to mention many gothic magz are beginning to look exactly the same. B O R I N G.

Let’s see if we can pick apart the GENERIC gothic magazine…

…shall we? Read the rest of this entry

GOTHIC FASHION: WHAT NOT TO WEAR!

h1 Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

BY AuntiePanPan

I have a complaint. A serious complaint.

It has to do with little, itty bitty, box hats. Let me be blunt. I have been looking in various gothic fashion magazines and websites, and see large headed girls wearing itty bitty teeny not even a squeaky mouse could fit into this sized hats.

NOW. Read the rest of this entry

This article: Capes, Drapes and other flammable things.
Ah, yes…The end of Summer at the annual graveyard picnic. Woe be it to you if you have nothing to plonk down onto the ground to sit upon so not as to ruin your velvet and leather hobble skirt or have a wet spot on your butt in the tall wet grasses overlooking the local family tombs in the wee hours of the morning. There is only one thing that can save you that is much more pretty than a piece of newspaper to sit upon.
Capes. Trench coats. Cloaks and leather jackets. Read the rest of this entry
