Comic Con awww you are a crazy and wacky creature. From some cosplayers that show to much skin (the horror of spandex and third boobs mostly on men) at the Masquerade and from two guys having a pen fight over seats for a panel.  Then again I can understand getting crazy over seats. This year we tried to get into the dreaded Hall H and failed. Unless I was willing to camp or wait several hours for any panel in Hall H. One thing I do not understand and might make the Con better is if they do programming on Sunday for  Hall H.  Hall H had nothing going on Sunday. I know huge lines look great for pictures but in reality suck. This year the big buzz was off course that Comic Con could be moving in a few years to Anaheim, Vegas and I heard rumbles of LA as well which Verbatim Girl discussed. I like the Con but I think programming needs to more spread out. Sundays are rather sparse. The only panel we attended was CASTLE and it was awesome and granted well packed. But more options are good for everyone. Thank you Comic Con for just being awesome and strange as always. Till next year.

Pirates, Avatars and Donkeys…Oh My! San Diego Comic Con - 2010

h1 Thursday, August 26th, 2010

By Writer and Photographer Verbatim Girl

This years San Diego Comic Con-Popular arts convention was a tribute to a flurry of fantastic fandemonium.

Every year the costumes get brighter and tighter and this year the buck didn’t stop shy of geek perfection. As a fellow costume connoisseur, I give homage to the plethora of plastic, the trillions of tresses, and the ingenuity and desire to stand out in a crowd.

At Comic-Con that is a difficult task in deed.

Here are some die hard fans and super troopers that braved the crowded isles and painstaking lines embellished in a uncomfortable yet unforgettable outfit, as the wise men say each to their own.

RED VS. BLUE

Not-SO-Iron Man!

SHI(she’ll kick your butt fellas)

It’s what happens when you cross a SMURF and a GREMLIN

SOCK MONKEY & GIRL, That’s a lot of Crochet

JARETH & SARAH from THE LABRYNTH

BARRY & JOE *THE OBI-WAN DUO (Two is better than Wan!)

MICHAEL & AARON as CAPTAIN AMERICA with SIDEKICK BUCKY

BATMAN’S got the cat’s meow in this CATWOMAN

Wow where’s the Raid….We have a Spider Infestation

Wait that’s no costumed crusader, It’s STAN LEE-GODFATHER TO COMICS’

JASON & KASEY AS FIFTH ELEMENT’S RUBY RHOD & LEELOO

AN ELFISH TEASE

RENEE as HARAJUKU GA-GA

BRIDGETTE as Brams Stokers LUCY

LADY DEATH…Wow that’s one big broad..I mean broad sword!

SAW #152 ‘CON OF DEATH’

EVIL from TIME BANDITS (trying to go back to 1981)

THE WOMEN OF MARVEL: Ms. Marvel, Emma Frost, and Black Widow

SHREK…Please no more movies, let Donkey die in peace

BARONESS of C.O.B.R.A. (Almost taken out by a Mario Brother)

The Predator Newlywed Game…coming this Fall to NBC

POTC 4? Nope just Mike the Scallywag

To GOAT or not to GOAT - San Diego Comic Con 2010

h1 Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Don’t GOAT to Anaheim….

Yes that was the hot topic at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con, and yes people that is a real goat!

Not every attendee was aware that the beloved San Diego Comic Con may soon be no more. The contract with the city is expiring in 2012 and negotiations have already begun for a new home, with the two highest candidates being Anaheim, CA and Las Vegas, NV. With both locations having their own sets of pros and cons.

Primarily the popular arts convention has outgrown its home in sunny San Diego, and will most likely be moved to a location that can hold it all in, kind of like an elephant attempting to wear spandex. This year proved it more so with endless panels, events, fulfillment rooms, gaming demonstrations and much more spilling out into downtown. The halls of the neighboring hotels, restaurant and store fronts, and parking lots or event centers were engrossed in it all and suddenly you realized that you’ve ended up at in a parking lot on Broadway and Fifth St., a million blocks from the actual convention centers core, picking up your free t-shirt.

Las Vegas Convention Center alone could take our beloved Con under its wing with over 1,900,000 sq.ft of exhibit space. With San Diego coming in at estimated 615,000 we would barely make a dent in the city of sin. Of course all of our exclusive limited edition piggy bank allowances would be lost to the bright lights and fast tables.

The close runner up, Anaheim, offers a shade more room at 813,000 sq.ft but with all the events currently exceeding SD’s limits the convention could be maxed out again in less than a year. Then of course you take into consideration the summer vacation tourism to Disneyland Resort, and there would scarcely be any room in Anaheim for all of us glorious freaks and geeks. Finally there are the costumed conflicts. Mighty Mouse vs. Mickey Mouse? Princess Jasmine vs Tomb Raider? Goofy vs. The Tick? Zombies vs. Churro Cart Vendors? There’s only so much lycra and spandex that any one town can take. I predict it would be chaos!

So, though the fate of Comic Con rests in the hands of lawyers and bankers, let us band together and enjoy the last two years of San Diego’s Comic-Con, besides if the Mayans are right what is there to even worry about?

Except maybe a pen in the eye.

Elvira Mistress of the Dark Returns with ELVIRA’S MOVIE MACABRE - Press Junket - San Diego Comic Con - July 24, 2010

On Saturday July 24, 2010 a press junket was held to officially announce that Elvira Mistress of the Dark Returns will be busting out on the boob tube with revamped ELVIRA’S MOVIE MACABRE  (tentative title) which will premiere on THIS! Television and in national syndication throughout the U.S. set to air on September 25 and make sure to check local listings for station, day, time and all that other stuff. The show will be a weekly two-hour movie block and is distributed by Trifecta Entertainment & Media, and will air on television stations representing more than 80% of U.S. households.

When asked how she felt about the Twilight movies, Elvira tried really hard to be diplomatic and after being egged on by Ted, she broke and said “I hate the Twilight movies!”  I prefer my vamps non sparkling as well.

When asked how she keeps looking so young “Virgins blood, but it’s getting harder to find and exorcising daily”

Elvira was asked if any favorites made it on the show and they are The Killer Shrews, Manos, The Hands of Fate, Teenagers From Outer Space and Werewolf of Washington.

Hank Cohen, CEO/Partner of Trifecta Entertainment & Media, told us that over 500 films were considered before the final choices were made. “Elvira knows these movies backwards and forwards.”

Two movies that she would like to get the rights for are Plan 9 From Outer Space and House on Haunted Hill.

A real issue was finding the public-domain flicks in good or complete condition, because these movies when made on the cheap so the crappy negatives abound. The films to be featured on the show are remastered. “I’m going to be in HD of course,” she said. As for screening 3D movies, Elvira grinned and replied, “I only have 2Ds right now.”

Elvira is totally jazzed about the “spooky and cool” music for the new show, composed by White Stripes musician Jack While. “We’re going to make a day-glow vinyl of it,” Elvira said. Vinyl is awesome so this is SWEET!

Speaking of groovy tunes for your crypt, Elvira also has a iTunes album titled Elvira’s Gravest Hits featuring 13 tracks of course!

http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/elviras-gravest-hits/id380065081

When asked about Lady Gaga and other pop stars “stay out of the front of the Macabre Mobile” and will call herself “Lady Tatas.”

Elvira’s Movie Macabre is a 34D Production written and produced by Cassandra Peterson and Ted Biaselli. The series’ Executive Producer is Anita First. The format of the show will be very similar to her previous one. Elvira will have 8 lead ins and will also pop up on screen for commentary as well. “And I have the same old damn couch,” Elvira said.

Elvira’s  Movie Macabre TV series picks are:

Night of the Living Dead, The Terror, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, Giant Gila Monster, Scared to Death, Werewolf of Washington, Eegah!, Untamed Women, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Satanic Rights of Dracula, I Eat Your Skin, Don’t Look in the Basement, Teenagers From Outer Space, Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter, Lady Frankenstein, Manster, Wild Women of Wongo, A Bucket of Blood, Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric, Tormented, The Wasp Woman, Beast From the Haunted Cave, The Killer Shrews, Monsters From a Prehistoric Planet, Attack of the Giant Leeches and Manos, The Hands of Fate.

News from San Diego Comic Con: Guillermo del Toro to work with Disney to Develop a new Haunted Mansion movie.

As long as Eddie Murphy doesn’t show up boils and ghouls we’ll be fine…

http://www.echonews.com/1012/images/movie_haunted_mansion.jpg

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - July 22, 2010 -Guillermo del Toro surprised the 6,500 fans gathered today at Comic-Con with the announcement that he is currently developing a new film for The Walt Disney Studios based on the classic Disney theme park attraction, The Haunted Mansion.

“Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy. After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters - think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White,” said del Toro. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!”

“Millions of people from around the world visit The Haunted Mansion each year, but no one has ever had a tour guide like Guillermo del Toro,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “Guillermo is one of the most gifted and innovative filmmakers working today and he is going to take audiences on a visually-thrilling journey like they’ve never experienced before.”

Since August 1969, foolish mortals have dared to trespass on the macabre grounds of Disney’s Haunted Mansion. A hallowed landmark in Disneyland’s New Orleans square, it’s the dwelling place of 999 happy haunts dying to meet new visitors each day. The plantation-style of the mansion’s facade is a sweet deception for visitors. Inside, ghostly doom buggies line the hallways. Since its construction, the mysteries of the mansion have transcended the attraction with stories surfacing about horrifying encounters with the supernatural. Versions of the daunting edifice have been built at other Disney theme parks in Orlando, Tokyo and Paris.
