SAN DIEGO, Calif. - July 22, 2010 -Guillermo del Toro surprised the 6,500 fans gathered today at Comic-Con with the announcement that he is currently developing a new film for The Walt Disney Studios based on the classic Disney theme park attraction, The Haunted Mansion.

“Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy. After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters - think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White,” said del Toro. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real estate in the whole world!”

“Millions of people from around the world visit The Haunted Mansion each year, but no one has ever had a tour guide like Guillermo del Toro,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “Guillermo is one of the most gifted and innovative filmmakers working today and he is going to take audiences on a visually-thrilling journey like they’ve never experienced before.”

Since August 1969, foolish mortals have dared to trespass on the macabre grounds of Disney’s Haunted Mansion. A hallowed landmark in Disneyland’s New Orleans square, it’s the dwelling place of 999 happy haunts dying to meet new visitors each day. The plantation-style of the mansion’s facade is a sweet deception for visitors. Inside, ghostly doom buggies line the hallways. Since its construction, the mysteries of the mansion have transcended the attraction with stories surfacing about horrifying encounters with the supernatural. Versions of the daunting edifice have been built at other Disney theme parks in Orlando, Tokyo and Paris.

Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky The Skies will be fired off at Disneyland on Thurday July 1 to Sunday July 4 at 9:30 PM.

Well Howdy Friends!

Happy first anniversary everyone! its been a year of Kuma in the Parks.

Disney is making it easy for us to celebrate this year with the opening of World of Color.

Guys, I saw this show last night, and it is amazing. I can not imagine anyone not wanting to see it. Due to it being as popular as we are thinking it is going to be it may be difficult for everyone to see it together. But its best we just go with the flow.

Below is some information about World of Color.

There are 2 shows scheduled for World of Color on the 13th.
the 1st show is at 2115
the 2nd show is at 2215.

As far as tickets for the show they are doing ShowPass to limit Guests staking out space in Paradise Park hours prior to the show, you will have a few options.

1. Get a Show Pass at Grizzly River Run. The park opens at 1000, I expect there to be a crazy rush to the fast pass queue. I would get to the parks early if you are going this route

2. Buy a boxed picnic meal. These can be purchased online only starting on the 11th, cost $14.99 and come with a “tote”. The Purchase will also give you 1 show pass per meal. - This is what the Chrises will be doing. There may be meals available day of but only for the last show.

3. Reserve a special World of Color meal at Ariels Grotto or the Trattoria. These are expensive, in the $35 - $40 range. To do this call 781-DINE or (714) 781-3463.

Our meeting place this trip will be the Hungry Bear restaurant. We will be meeting at 1400. Once again… Our meeting place is at the Hungry Bear Restaurant and at 1400.

I would recommend parking in the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure. It is accessible from Ball road off the 5.

As always, this is a no itinerary, come as you want event. You are welcome to grab a bite to eat or not, stay with the group, if there is one, or split off, you are free to do as you wish.

8am to 12pm for Disneyland
10am to 10pm for California Adventure.

Start boarding one last time for Endor kids! Check this out the most kick ass news is that the official announcement  of “re imagining” of Star Tours at Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts. Scheduled to open in 2011, which will feature a new 3-D film and familiar planets in the Star Wars galaxy. Star Tours will close at Disneyland Park on July 27 and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on September 8.

There will be a special “Last Tour to Endor” party on August 14 during “Star Wars Celebration V” in Orlando and hopefully Disneyland will do something as well.

Well Howdy Friends!

First an apology for getting this out so late. I honestly thought that the 2nd Sunday was the Sunday after next. So now onto the event.

I realize that this is a very busy month. Mothers Day, Long Beach Pride, a slew of birthdays and a bunch of other stuff.

This Sunday is Moms day. I considered canceling the event before I even posted it, but we decided that even though we should all visit our moms Sunday, some of us are probably going to need an excuse to escape the family togetherness. To that end we decided to delay the start of Kuma In the Parks.

We will be meeting at 1800. The meeting spot will be Rancho Del Zocalo.

I would recommend parking in the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure. It is accessible from Ball road off the 5.

We will be meeting at Rancho at 1800 or 6pm, whichever you prefer.

As always, this is a no itinerary, come as you want event. You are welcome to grab a bite to eat or not, stay with the group, if there is one, or split off, you are free to do as you wish.

8am to 12pm for Disneyland
10am to 10pm for California Adventure.

“Summer Nightastic!” will run through Aug. 29, 2010 and will return at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure.

The new nighttime water show - “World of Color” - aka WOC at Disney’s California Adventure park. Will be located in Paradise Bay, Disney’s newest production features crazy water effects, huge projections, lasers - so lasers here but none for Captain EO - Really guys?, fire - fire is awesome, fog - but without the murderous ghost pirates or pirate ghosts, and surround sound that will make the cars go boom. Animated Disney and Disney•Pixar film sequences such as The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Alice In Wonderland, Wall-E and such will be featured.

Over at Disneyland park, “Fantasmic!” returns with Maleficent as her kick ass fire breathing dragon form aka the dragon that totally epic failed and missed almost the entire summer last year. Meanwhile enjoy the pretty lights In the skies above Sleeping Beauty Castle, “Magical” which premiered in summer 2009, features both super vixen pixie Tinker Bell and large eared pachyderm Dumbo in flight over the castle.

I guess i am the fool here this month. It occured to me today that our KUMA outing was this weekend… I apologize that I am so late in putting this invite together.

This month I would like to start out in CA Adventure. The meeting location will be the tables outside of the Noddle Cookery and the Mexican Restaurant.

Since the Resort will be in the thick of Spring Break the parks will be busy, so plan accordingly. I would recommend parking in the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure. It is accessible from Ball road off the 5.

The Electrical parade will be making a very limited appearance during this time. I am sure some of us will want to see it before it heads back to Walt Disney World. This will be our last chance to see the Electrical Parade.

We will be meeting at the tables at 1300 or 1pm, whichever you prefer.

As always, this is a no itinerary, come as you want event. You are welcome to grab a bite to eat or not, stay with the group, if there is one, or split off, you are free to do as you wish.

8am to 12pm for Disneyland
9am to 10pm for California Adventure.
